HOME DELIVERED MEALS

In Missouri, as many as 1 in 8 seniors are struggling with food insecurity. This means roughly 170,000 seniors in Missouri struggle with not having regular access to food. Many seniors living at home are at an increased risk of hunger compared to younger adults due to issues such as health conditions, disability, or functional limitations that affect their ability to obtain and prepare meals.

In our State, ten local Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) are responsible for administering the Older Americans Act Title III c funding for nutrition services throughout their geographic boundaries. However, often, the funding they receive does not cover the number of meals they provide. One rural Nutrition Site Administrator stated that they continually struggle with trying to deliver 2,977 meals a month in their area. She further stated that she receives calls daily requesting delivery of additional meals. It has been especially hard to keep up with needed meals during the pandemic.

MCQC has been a strong supporter of the Missouri Home Delivered Meals Program. For the past several years, we have donated $100.00 each to 20 Missouri home-delivered meal sites. The Administrators are desperately in need of additional funds, and are always very appreciative of any donations they receive. We, therefore, encourage members to contribute to this worthwhile cause.
